The galleries on this page show examples of figures released as non-retail limited editions from the Masters of the Universe Origins line. This section does not include every exclusive figure released under the Origins brand.

HE-MAN

MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

The first He-Man of the Origins line was released in a two-pack with Prince Adam (next entry). This set was a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive in 2019. The figure is notable for the boot dagger which links to Vintage artwork.

Two heads were included in the set. One is based on the Vintage figure while the other is a new design for Origins. The red blocks on the harness extend over the shoulders and back straps – a first for He-Man figures.

PRINCE ADAM

HEROIC SECRET IDENTITY OF HE-MAN

The SDCC Prince Adam is based on comic and minicomic appearances rather than the Vintage toy. A grey sword was included as an accessory. As with He-Man, two heads were included.

HE-MAN

MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

This version of He-Man was released as part of a Power-Con exclusive set in 2020, which also featured Skeletor, Man-At-Arms, Beast Man and Mer-Man (below). Power-Con is an event for He-Man and She-Ra fans in the US.

These designs are based on the Lords of Power prototypes which were early models for the Vintage figures. He-Man has a shield and axe but no sword. The weapons and harness are notable for their blue-grey colour.

SKELETOR

EVIL LORD OF DESTRUCTION

Power-Con Skeletor is a particularly interesting figure due to his prototype face sculpt, the colouring of the chest armour (as seen in the Series One minicomics) and the nicely detailed shin guards. He has a staff but no sword.

MAN-AT-ARMS

HEROIC MASTER OF WEAPONS

Power-Con Man-At-Arms is a faithful reproduction of his Lords of Power prototype. Points of interest include the boot dagger, the black trim around the armour, and the solid backplate.

BEAST MAN

SAVAGE HENCHMAN

The prototype armour, belt and Beast Man’s head sculpt are based on an illustration by designer Mark Taylor. The figure does not include a weapon. The gold bracers are particularly distinctive.

MER-MAN

EVIL OCEAN WARLORD

The boot and belt designs on Power-Con Mer-Man come from Mark Taylor’s concept art. The embellishments, which represent shells and seaweed, have rarely featured on Mer-Man figures. They match the carapace armour.

TRI-KLOPS

EVIL AND SEES EVERYTHING

This Tri-Klops was sold on the Mattel Creations website. It’s meant to be the celebrated version of the character from the Series Two minicomics but the colour scheme isn’t accurate. The paintwork is fairly sloppy.

FAKER

EVIL ROBOT OF SKELETOR

This 2021 Power-Con exclusive Faker was sold as part of a Maniacal Mimics set with a steed called Dupli-Cat. Faker’s design is based on a rare Indian variant (known informally as Leo Faker) from the Vintage line.

HORDAK

RUTHLESS LEADER OF THE EVIL HORDE

Sold in an exclusive four-pack with Grizzlor and two Horde Troopers (next entries), this Power-Con Hordak is based on his appearance in the Vintage She-Ra cartoon. It’s a poorly designed and uninteresting figure.

GRIZZLOR

HAIRY HENCHMAN OF THE EVIL HORDE

The first appearance of Grizzlor in the Origins line is styled after the rare dark-coloured Vintage version. He’s a fun version of the character but, due to very limited production, he’s just as scarce as the original.

HORDE TROOPER

EVIL FRIGHT GUARD OF HORDAK

This figure is also known as the Crimson Horde Trooper. The torso-splitting mechanism, which uses the button on the chest, works fairly well. The design lacks precision but is nevertheless a decent action figure.

HORDE TROOPER

EVIL STEALTH SOLDIER OF HORDAK

This figure is also known as the Shadow Horde Trooper. Colour aside, he’s identical to the previous entry. This does raise a question about why the Power-Con exclusives, which are mostly repaints, are always so expensive.

EXPLORER SPACE SUIT

ANCIENT COSMIC ARMOR

Not a character as such, but the Origins version of the Castle Grayskull spacesuit has been created as an articulated figure, hence its inclusion here. Part of the Mysteries of Grayskull exclusive Power-Con set.

ORLAX OF PRIMERIA

MYSTERIOUS CREATURE FROM THE DWELL OF SOULS

The Dwell of Souls was Mark Taylor’s name for Castle Grayskull’s dungeon. The Vintage design was a sticker, illustrated by Rebecca Taylor. This odd-looking toy is from that concept. Part of the Mysteries of Grayskull set.

SPIRIT OF GRAYSKULL

MANIFESTATION OF CASTLE GRAYSKULL

Pre-dating the King Grayskull concept, this eerie phantom goes right back to the Series One minicomics. It’s just a pretty simple lump of plastic, but it’s actually rather fun. The final entry in the Mysteries of Grayskull set.

KOL-DARR

HEROIC WARRIOR OF JUSTICE

Kol-Darr was a minor character in the original MOTU cartoon, but he has a barbarian styling worthy of a place in a Vintage minicomic. It’s that quality which makes the first toy appearance of Kol-Darr a surprising success.

WUN-DAR

THE SAVAGE HE-MAN

Originally a rare dark-haired He-Man figure with neither armour nor a name, Wun-Dar has grown into an enigmatic part of MOTU lore. The Origins toy has a few paint issues but is otherwise a decent figure.
