The galleries on this page show examples of Heroic Warrior figures released at retail from the Masters of the Universe Origins line. Cross-sell art is included in the galleries if it was made available on card-backs or boxes.

HE-MAN

THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

He-Man for a new generation! The character is instantly recognisable although the head sculpt is in a new and slightly odd style. In keeping with the Vintage figure which inspired this one, the sword is a ‘split’ half-sword.

SHE-RA

THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN THE UNIVERSE

She-Ra, who was featured in the Vintage Princess of Power toy line, is now absorbed into the Heroic Warriors faction. (She retained her POP designation in the Classics line.) The Origins design is unremarkable.

MAN-AT-ARMS

HEROIC MASTER OF WEAPONS

A good figure which is similar to the original with the obvious exception of the slug-like moustache. This unsightly addition was intended to resemble how the character was illustrated in the cartoon.

TEELA

HEROIC WARRIOR GODDESS

A good version Teela which can be displayed with or without the armour to represent both the original Sorceress concept and the young warrior woman. The accessories are a little too fat for the female hands.

STRATOS

HEROIC WINGED WARRIOR

Origins Stratos is similar to his Vintage figure. The wings only clip on at the wrists though. The head sculpt is very close to the original design. He’s quite a basic toy but an important character in the canon.

MAN-E-FACES

HEROIC HUMAN… ROBOT… MONSTER

An improvement on the Vintage toy allows the head to turn on Origins Man-E-Faces, revealing this figure to have as much in common with the Classics version as the original. The skin tone is peculiar though.

RAM-MAN

HEROIC HUMAN BATTERING RAM

A very good figure. The spring mechanism in the legs locks firmly in place and is released when the head is pressed. The one irritating detail is the dent sculpted into the helmet. An extra head and axe were included.

ROBOTO

HEROIC MECHANICAL WARRIOR

A figure with a less detailed inner chest design than the original, but nevertheless a fairly faithful version. The weapon attachments and the helmet have a marbling effect which is new for this character.

BATTLE ARMOR HE-MAN

THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

The chest section looks odd because it had to be small enough to work with the figure’s shoulder articulation. A half-sword, axe and energy blast for the sword were included. A Vintage-style head provides an alternative look.

FISTO

HEROIC HAND-TO-HAND FIGHTER

Origins Fisto has been sculpted well and is a close match to the original figure. This is a good example of where the new articulation allows for interesting action poses.

ORKO

HEROIC COURT MAGICIAN

Origins Orko has been downsized from the Vintage figure but is actually bigger than the Classics version. The elaborate stand (something less bubbly and sparkly would have been better) allows him to pose as if aloft.

PRINCE ADAM

HEROIC SECRET IDENTITY OF HE-MAN

Prince Adam was included with the Jet Sled vehicle. It suggests a rather more active role for the prince in the Origins canon. The tunic colour is too vivid. Prince Adam has a full version of the sword.

ZODAC

COSMIC ENFORCER

The packaging groups Zodac with the Heroic Warriors for the Origins line, hence his inclusion here. He’s a really good figure who is a very close match for his Vintage edition. An under-appreciated and misused character.

TEMPLE OF DARKNESS SORCERESS

HEROIC GUARDIAN OF CASTLE GRAYSKULL

Temple of Darkness Sorceress was packaged with Castle Grayskull. Her name and colour scheme come from a Vintage minicomic. The Origins version is rather good. The translucent wings are a nice touch.

HE-MAN

THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

Perhaps realising that the first head sculpt was not universally admired, Mattel released a second edition of He-Man in 2021. This one uses the Vintage-style head. The half-sword has been replaced with a full version.

CLAMP CHAMP

HEROIC MASTER OF CAPTURE

Never the most inspiring character, Clamp Champ continues to be mediocre in his Origins form. The grinning face is, however, quite terrifying and best left hidden away. The large accessory has a working mechanism.

ETERNIAN GODDESS

GUARDIAN OF THE POWER IN THE UNIVERSE

A nice version of the Sorceress / Goddess from the Series One minicomics. The character was only coloured green in the first minicomic, He-Man and the Power Sword. The Origins figure is nicely styled.

ETERNIAN PALACE GUARD

ROYAL DEFENDER

The named character is a generic figure which is a simplified version of a toy first seen in the Classics line. More importantly, the box included the parts for a regular Man-At-Arms figure without a moustache.

BATTLE ARMOR HE-MAN

THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

This He-Man was part of the Battlefield Warriors two-pack with Battle Cat. The shiny armour, injuries and second head differentiate this figure from the earlier one. Tiny dragons and a display piece were also included.

FLYING FISTS HE-MAN

HEROIC LEADER WITH THE ARM-SWINGING ACTION

The arm-swinging feature on Flying Fists He-Man is a little restrictive and awkward to use, but it’s better than the Vintage toy by some measure. Two heads were included for different looks. A decent action figure.

SORCERESS

HEROIC GUARDIAN OF CASTLE GRAYSKULL

The Sorceress figures in the Origins line have been rather nice surprises. I prefer the all-white colour of the Temple of Darkness version, but I have no complaints about this one. It’s a neater design than the Vintage toy.

BUZZ-OFF

HEROIC SPY IN THE SKY

Buzz-Off is one of the standout Origins figures. He’s beautifully true to the Vintage version, but the designers have solved the loose helmet problem by modifying the antennae. A great version of a favourite character.

STRATOS

WINGED WARRIOR

This version of Stratos is based on his appearance in the Vintage Series One minicomics. The Origins design is rather simplistic, but of the two figures, this one has the more interesting colour scheme.

HE-MAN

MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE

Based on the 200X He-Man toy, this figure is a substantial improvement over the original. It’s the hobbit-like head sculpt that surpasses the ugly teenage version. But how many He-Man figures does the Origins line need?

SNOUT SPOUT

HEROIC WATER-BLASTING FIREFIGHTER

Snout Spout is supposedly a deluxe figure but he’s perhaps the most lazy design in the range. The soft backpack and the hosepipe which plugs into the primary head are a mess. The second head is a cartoon version.

TEELA

HEROIC WARRIOR GODDESS

This edition of Teela was supplied in a box with the fighting falcon Zoar. The paintwork on Teela is rather plain. The ponytailed head sculpt is new with this figure. Zoar comes with his stand and is very similar to the original version.

KING RANDOR

HEROIC RULER OF ETERNIA

A very good version of King Randor which looks a lot like the original figure, although this time he has a plastic cape rather than a cloth one, and the crown does not detach. An important canonical character.

KING RANDOR

HEROIC RULER OF ETERNIA

The second version of King Randor is based on a design from the 200X era. It’s a pretty good figure but not as good as the version above which was based on the Vintage toy.

SLAMURAI

HEROIC MASTER OF MARTIAL ARTS

A Ninjor repaint that first appeared in toy form during the Classics line, but he was actually based on Vintage artwork. The Origins version is quite good and has a variety of weapons.

SNAKE ARMOR HE-MAN

MOST POWERFUL SNAKE HUNTER IN THE UNIVERSE

An interesting version of He-Man based on a variant figure from the 200X line. The claw device on the right arm armour is named ‘snake pincher’. Have a look at the animations page to see it in action.

SNAKE ARMOR HE-MAN

MOST POWERFUL SNAKE HUNTER IN THE UNIVERSE

A minor repaint distinguishes this version of Snake Armor He-Man from the standard toy above. This figure was released in the Diabolical Snake Invasion four-pack with new characters Rattle-Hood, Gorgon and Naga.

MAN-E-FACES

HEROIC HUMAN… ROBOT… MONSTER

This version of Man-E-Faces was difficult to track down; I only saw him on Amazon’s US site. His faces were newly sculpted and painted for this release, and the skin colour is better than his first Origins appearance.

SERPENT CLAW MAN-AT-ARMS

SNAKE-HUNTING WEAPONS MASTER

A rather unimpressive version of Man-at-Arms whose armour does not fit together very well. The colour scheme is odd. The figure is based on a variant from the 200X line.

ROBOTO

HEROIC MECHANICAL WARRIOR

This version of Roboto is coloured to replicate – approximately – his appearance in the Vintage minicomics. He was never the most interesting character but the figure is pretty good.

MEKANECK

HEROIC HUMAN PERISCOPE

This is a terrific version of one of the best MOTU characters. Origins Mekaneck was sold in a box with the Ground Ripper ‘warrior carrier’ vehicle. He probably should have been available as a single-carded figure though.

MOSS MAN

HEROIC SPY AND MASTER OF CAMOUFLAGE

A deluxe version of Moss Man that included a second head design – based on the Beast Man Lords of Power prototype – and armour to replicate Beast Man’s yellow set from the Vintage Weapons Pak. A fantastic figure.
