The 2014 selection included the standard monthly subscription plus a Club Etheria mini sub which focussed on Princess of Power characters. There were some good figures but the range was losing momentum at this stage.
TWO BAD
DOUBLE-HEADED EVIL STRATEGIST
Two Bad is a fan favourite and looks good in Classics form. He’s slightly awkward to pose because the legs lack adequate ankle articulation. The intricate sculpt makes Two Bad an interesting action figure.
GLIMMER
THE GUIDE WHO LIGHTS THE WAY
Glimmer is a reasonable Classics figure whose origins lie within the Princess of Power brand. She has an open spellcasting hand which can just about hold the included crystal ball.
MODULOK
EVIL BEAST OF A THOUSAND BODIES
Modulok is one of the most imaginatively sculpted figures in the Classics line. As with the Vintage toy, he can be pulled apart and assembled in different ways. Multiple constructions are possible but few work in practice.
HYDRON
COURAGEOUS LEADER
Hydron comes from the He-Man (New Adventures) era. The interpretation is reasonably imaginative but he does not really fit in the Classics line. The extra tall helmet seems rather an odd choice.
UNNAMED ONE
EVIL LORD OF CHAOS
The Unnamed One has vague roots in the media of the Vintage era but was only conceived as being of the same race as Orko for the Classics storyline. This nicely designed figure was the 2014 subscription exclusive.
BLADE
EVIL MASTER OF SWORDS
Blade was the first character from the Masters of the Universe movie to be made in Classics form. This is a very detailed figure. He’s certainly an improvement on his Vintage incarnation.
SCORPIA
STINGING HORDE ENFORCER
Classics Scorpia is a very good Evil Horde figure whose origins lie in the Princess of Power cartoon. The female Horde villains tended to translate better into figure form than their heroic counterparts.
EXTENDAR
HEROIC MASTER OF EXTENSION
Classics Extendar loses some of the bulk from the Vintage version and is better for it. Extension pieces for the neck, arms and legs replicate the action feature.
FLOGG
EVIL LEADER OF THE SPACE MUTANTS
A rather gormless Space Mutants character from the He-Man (New Adventures) line. That said, there is some nice detailing on the figure, particularly on the shoulder armour.
DOUBLE MISCHIEF
GLAMOROUS DOUBLE AGENT
The oddly shaped head section and weighty hair piece spoil this figure. Double Mischief was originally called Double Trouble in the Princess of Power line.
HORDAK
RUTHLESS LEADER OF THE EVIL HORDE INVASION
Hordak was reissued with blue skin to represent his appearance in the She-Ra cartoon wherein he was the main antagonist. The included creature also comes from the cartoon and is called Imp.
FLUTTERINA
BEAUTIFUL FLYING LOOKOUT
Flutterina is another Princess of Power character. The wings seem drastically under-designed. They don’t fit very well under the hair sculpt.
SKELETOR
INTERGALACTIC OVERLORD OF EVIL
This version of Skeletor is based on the He-Man (New Adventures) version of the villain. He’s difficult to pose because there is no movement in the ankles, but the level of sculpting makes this a very impressive figure.
MADAME RAZZ
MAGICAL WITCH OF WHISPERING WOODS
Madame Razz is a bizarre character from the She-Ra cartoon. The design is equally strange with its tiny feet and weak ankle joints. One for dedicated She-Ra fans only. Broom is the name of the accessory.
RIO BLAST
HEROIC TRANSFORMING GUNSLINGER
The detailed face sculpt on Classics Rio Blast is let down by very poor design elsewhere. The chest flap does not fit in place as it should but sits over the chest at a wonky angle. The weapons accessories lack imagination.
ENTRAPTA
TRICKY GOLDEN BEAUTY
The gimmick of the original Entrapta in the Princess of Power line was long hair that could entangle enemies. The plastic hair on the Classics version mimics that feature in a fairly imaginative way.
ELDOR
HEROIC GUARDIAN OF THE BOOK OF LIVING SPELLS
Eldor was a concept character for the Powers of Grayskull line. He never got past the prototype stage. This figure is a superb addition to the Classics line, not just for its historical value but also the excellent design work.
SWEET BEE
HONEY OF A GUIDE
A rather weak inclusion in the Club Etheria subscription. The wings fit rather badly under the hair. The antennae are prone to breakage because they are attached so delicately to the head.
LIGHT HOPE
MAGICAL PROTECTOR OF THE CRYSTAL CASTLE
Light Hope was the subscription-exclusive figure for the Club Etheria collection. The character existed in the She-Ra cartoon but not in a defined form. The Classics sculpt is nicely detailed.
MAN-AT-ARMS
HEROIC RESURRECTED MASTER OF WEAPONS
This young version of Man-At-Arms was included with the Battle Ram vehicle. A storyline was developed for the Classics line which took place over many years. This figure is less interesting than the 2009 version.
TUNG LASHOR
EVIL SNAKE MEN CREATURE WITH THE VENOMOUS TONGUE
Tung Lashor is hindered by lack of ankle articulation but is otherwise an excellent figure. Two heads were included to represent the Vintage action feature. Note the squinting eyes on the open-mouthed head sculpt.
SHE-RA
GALACTIC PROTECTOR
A reasonable She-Ra variant intended for the New Adventures thread of the Classics story. The cloak with blue on one side and white on the other is a good design choice.
GWILDOR
HEROIC CREATOR OF THE COSMIC KEY
Gwildor was a movie character who was added to the Vintage line. The Classics version is highly detailed but is still an ugly little troll that doesn’t feel like a real Masters of the Universe character.
MERMISTA
MERMAID FRIEND OF SHE-RA
Mermista has human legs which detach easily from the torso to be replaced with the tail part. An included stand makes quite a good job of displaying the figure. A fairly interesting Classics figure.
SPINNERELLA
DIZZYING DEFENDER
A surprisingly good inclusion in the Club Etheria subscription, Classics Spinnerella features some very nice detail on the belt and bracers.
LOO-KEE
HIDES AND SEES ALL IN ETHERIA
Loo-Kee was boxed with the pink-brown version of Kowl (next entry) and included in the Club Etheria subscription. This was a rather underhanded way of occupying a figure slot which could have been put to much better use.
KOWL
THE KNOW-IT OWL
The pink-brown version of Kowl was packaged with Loo-Kee. The pale yellow version is from the End of Wars Weapons Pak in 2013. Issuing the recoloured version a year later in a regular figure slot was a waste.
GOAT MAN
HORN-HEADED SERVANT OF BEAST MAN
Goat Man is a great Classics figure with an obscure origin. He featured in a Vintage-era Golden storybook called Secret of the Dragon’s Egg. The staff accessory is called the Staff of Avion and is meant for Stratos.
