The galleries on this page show examples of Evil Warrior figures released at retail from the Masters of the Universe Origins line. Cross-sell art is included in the galleries if it was made available on card-backs or boxes.
SKELETOR
EVIL LORD OF DESTRUCTION
This is a great version of Skeletor with the obvious exception of the head sculpt. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. The design of the open-mouth face is good; the problem is with the poor paint application.
The Havoc Staff is an essential accessory and has been sculpted well. It’s close to the Vintage version. The sword is a half-sword which clips together with He-Man’s opposite half to make the Power Sword.
BEAST MAN
SAVAGE HENCHMAN
Origins Beast Man is a very good figure that is almost identical to the Vintage version. The designers deliberately made the whip handle too big to fit into his hand as a tribute to the original.
MER-MAN
EVIL OCEAN WARLORD
Origins Mer-Man uses the two-colour pattern on the figure’s trunks that featured on the earliest Vintage toys. It’s a nice touch. The sword grip is, like the original, too wide to fit Mer-Man’s hand properly.
EVIL-LYN
EVIL WARRIOR GODDESS
A nice interpretation of the Evil-Lyn character although there’s something off about the skin colour. The shaft of the wand is too fat for the female hands.
TRAP JAW
EVIL AND ARMED FOR COMBAT
This Trap Jaw lacks the sinister look of his earlier incarnations but he is still quite a good figure. The weak point is the head sculpt. He looks too much like a Fisher Price toy to be entirely convincing in the Origins line.
SCARE GLOW
EVIL GHOST SERVING SKELETOR
Origins Scare Glow is one of the finest figures in the line. The cape is plastic rather than cloth. He does, of course, glow in the dark. Mattel have gone with the green poleaxe for this version of the character.
BATTLE ARMOR SKELETOR
EVIL LORD OF DESTRUCTION
Two new head sculpts were included with this figure. One appears to be smiling. The other frowns. Neither of them are particularly good. The inclusion of a shield, which has a great design, is a welcome addition.
TRI-KLOPS
EVIL AND SEES EVERYTHING
Origins Tri-Klops is very true to the Vintage figure. The toys in this line seem to work best when they are closest in design to the originals. It’s hard to go wrong with Tri-Klops, and he’s one of the best figures.
NINJOR
EVIL NINJA WARRIOR
The plain weapons are a little dull but the figure is good. I would have liked the red sash of the cross-sell art to have transferred to the toy. Slots for the weapons on the back of the armour are useful features.
SKELETOR
EVIL LORD OF DESTRUCTION
The second retail version of Skeletor replaces the half-sword with a full version. The smiling (Battle Armor) head is used instead of the open-mouthed one; unfortunately it’s a poor and inadequate replacement.
MER-MAN
OCEAN WARLORD
The second retail Mer-Man is a simplified version of the Lords of Power exclusive. He is a different enough from the first one to be interesting. The non-matching armour colours are from the Vintage LOP prototype.
FAKER
EVIL ROBOT OF SKELETOR
Origins Faker uses the Vintage-style He-Man head. That’s a sensible choice although a duller red or orange for the hair would have been better. But that’s the only niggle on an otherwise good toy.
EVIL-LYN
EVIL WARRIOR GODDESS
The colours for this second edition of Evil-Lyn are based on her incarnation in the 2002 (200X) Masters of the Universe line. It’s a welcome change from the peculiar yellow that we normally associate with this character.
BEAST MAN
SAVAGE HENCHMAN
This LOP Beast Man is coloured red after the Series One minicomics. The armour colour comes from Vintage Beast Man’s Weapons Pak accessories. It’s great to have another version of this important character.
WEBSTOR
EVIL MASTER OF ESCAPE
Webstor in Origins form is a great figure. He is very similar to the Vintage toy. The climbing mechanism doesn’t work particularly well but the backpack has useful clips to secure the rope. Very much a favourite character.
STINKOR
EVIL MASTER OF ODORS
Stinkor is a great figure in Origins form. There’s something just right about the paintwork and colour scheme of this character that always seems to work. The armour is a bit loose around the chest on this version.
KELDOR
EVIL APPRENTICE OF HORDAK
Keldor has always been a fairly uninteresting toy in his MOTU appearances; the Origins figure is no different. He was included in the Rise of Evil two-pack with Kronis (next entry). But the included Skeletor head is superb.
ORIGINS KRONIS
EVIL CRIMINAL FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION
This figure was named Origins Kronis on the box. A theme has developed over time that Kronis was the man who became Trap Jaw. This version has not been designed well. The silly grin doesn’t work on an evil character.
TERROR CLAWS SKELETOR
EVIL LEADER WITH THE CLAW-SWINGING ACTION
The Skeletor head sculpts have been poor in the Origins line, with the sole exception of the one packed in the Keldor / Kronis box. Terror Claws Skeletor reuses the weaker designs. And the paintwork is really bad.
JITSU
EVIL MASTER OF MARTIAL ARTS
A pretty good version of Jitsu which looks a lot like the original toy. The paintwork is passable for a mass-produced toy, but it could be substantially neater. That goes for the whole line, not just this figure.
CLAWFUL
WARRIOR WITH THE GRIP OF EVIL
Clawful is one of the best figures in the Origins line. The head sculpt is a good update on the Vintage version. It’s a little more detailed, which is a surprise because the Origins figures are usually less so than the originals.
ANTI-ETERNIA HE-MAN
MOST EVIL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE
An interesting version of a character who first appeared in figure form in 2016 during the Classics line but actually comes from a Vintage-era German audio play. He was originally called Anti-He-Man.
SKELETOR
EVIL LORD OF DESTRUCTION
This version of Skeletor is based on the 200X version. The two-piece sword is moulded as a simpler single piece this time around but is better for it. The head sculpt is also an improvement over the original.
WHIPLASH
EVIL TAIL-THRASHING WARRIOR
This Whiplash is very faithful to the Vintage toy but sensibly uses the solid tail from the Classics version. The horns aren’t symmetrical, but that’s a relatively small fault on an otherwise great interpretation of a favourite character.
TRAP JAW
EVIL & ARMED FOR COMBAT
The sculpt of this Trap Jaw is the same as the earlier version but the colours are based on the his first media appearance in the Series Two minicomics. This is probably the better colour scheme for the Origins design.
SPIKOR
UNTOUCHABLE MASTER OF EVIL COMBAT
Spikor in Origins form is similar to the Vintage toy. The difference is that the original had a hollow left arm which housed the trident. Later versions such as this one use attachments instead, which is aesthetically better.
SKELETON WARRIORS
EVIL ARMY OF SKELETOR
The Skeleton Warriors were sold as a two-pack. They are great glow-in-the-dark army-builder action figures for Skeletor. Not counting the Hover Robots in the Classics line, Skeletor has never had a proper army in toy form.
DRAGON BLASTER SKELETOR
EVIL LEADER & HIS DREADFUL DRAGON
A good variant of Skeletor that goes right back to the Vintage line, although it does use one of the poorer Origins face sculpts. The weight of the dragon always makes it tricky to pose Dragon Blaster Skeletor.
