Eight minicomics were produced during the lifespan of the Classics line. The stories attempted to bring together the various canons which were merged into this Masters of the Universe incarnation.
This was an ambitious but unsuccessful project. The stories were linked to the incoherent biographies which were published for the figures. The artwork featured in the minicomics is much stronger than the tales themselves.
THE LEGEND BEGINS!
The Legend Begins! is a retelling of a Vintage-era minicomic of the same name. The story tells of He-Man’s journey into the past where he battles the Snake Men and encounters a mysterious unnamed character.
HE-RO UNLEASHED!
He-Ro Unleashed! continues the story and confirms the identity of the new character as He-Ro. He-Man (in disguise) is introduced to King Grayskull. He-Ro dies. He-Man returns to the present. It’s a dull story.
THE SECOND ULTIMATE BATTLEGROUND!
Any writer worth his salt would know how stupid it is to have more than one ‘ultimate’ anything. The Second Ultimate Battleground! is a poor story which tries to create a bridge to the He-Man (New Adventures) canon.
THE SECRET ORIGIN OF SKELETOR!
The Secret Origin of Skeletor! is a significant departure from the Vintage-era concept of Skeletor being drawn to Eternia from another dimension. This tale is uncannily similar to the storyline of the Star Wars prequels.
HE-MAN VS. SKELETOR! THEIR FINAL BATTLE!
A He-Man (New Adventures) story that attempts to shoehorn in a bunch of concept characters which never made it into the Classics line. He-Man kills Skeletor. Some other characters decide to resurrect him for ‘neutrality’.
HOMECOMING!
Homecoming! is an incomprehensible tale. For some unfathomable reason Castle Grayskull blows up. Years ago artist Emiliano Santalucia created a far better story of the same name. It’s sadly no longer available online.
HE-RO AND HE-RO II
He-Ro and He-Ro II regurgitates the boring time-travel theme and introduces another group of concept characters who thankfully never made it into the Classics line. The story is corny and dull in equal measure.
DARE VS. GORPO!
In yet another circular storyline we have more time travel, more resurrecting dead warriors, and one more tedious ‘ultimate’ battle in which the participants glare at each other. Ultimately, the minicomics fail to entertain.
